Afrodisias (as the Turks spell it)
The major stop was Aphrodesias, an ancient city that was uncovered when a farmer plowed into some marble columns. The sight is quite large and the number of relics is huge. Of particular note were a large number of sarcophagi, a temple gate dedicated to Aphrodite, an athletic stadium that was about 400 yards long, a parliament (looks like a mini amphitheater, but was used for political discussions and ruling the city), and a theater that looked like it could seat about 2 or 3 thousand (I didn't stop to count). The site must cover a square mile!
Pamukkale
This gentleman, Ari, came up to us while we were doing our stroll and lay of the land and asked (in Turkish) for a picture with Ben. A one man welcoming committee. We love the locals!
