A Second Wife? Not so fast!
We went to lunch with a local family represented by 3 generations of women who cooked, prepared, and served the lunch. Grandma is 86, mom is 65, and the daughter is in her 30s. Granny was a very devout Muslim with the head scarf, traditional loose pants. Mom was also observant, head scarf but more moderate. Daughter was in jeans, no head covering and quite westernized. The food (outstanding, see photo) was served and I asked Mert to translate to mom, "This food is delicious, would she be interested in coming to the US and cooking for me?" She responded that she was rid of her husband, who was a very good man and incomparable, she had no responsibilities, plenty of money, and no interest in another burden. My response that I was very special and perhaps might be an improvement over her very worthy husband, citing that my mother thought I was special and she told everyone so. Mom asked about my profession and how much I earn. I offered that I am retired but was an engineer when I did work. I also offered that I had all my teeth and all my hair. Daughter asked if all my parts function. Big laugh from the room! I replied they still do, but not as often as before. There was certainly enough mirth as a result. There was a bit more repartee but not necessary to list here. Later I was told by Mert that her request for info was a first.
Apres lunch, Carpet Factory visit.
From there we went to
the carpet place, state subsidized, where mostly young women hand weave carpets
using wool, a wool/cotton combo, and pure silk. The salesman who presented the
spiel could have sold the Brooklyn Bridge to NYers, no problem.
We had intended to buy a carpet for our dining room. What we did not intend was to spend almost twice as much as we had planned, but we got one helluva carpet!
Tonight we are invited to a wedding. The hotel owner's son got married today.
